Squeezed out: Bulgaria lavender oil makers fear EU laws
The future of the sector appears to be more gloomy than purple as a good harvesting season delivering several hundred tonnes of lavender oil in Bulgaria, the world's top producer, comes to a close. Bulgarian distillers worry that new EU laws will further hinder their industry, which is already suffering from a global production glut. The clock is ticking even if the European Union has offered to postpone the introduction of the bloc's updated legislation banning dangerous chemical compounds.
