Voting extended after delays as Zimbabwe president known as ‘the crocodile’ seeks a second term
Voting in Zimbabwe's presidential election was extended until Thursday after delays of up to 10 hours in mostly opposition strongholds. Chaotic scenes were reported at polling stations as ballot papers arrived late or ran out, forcing voting to be suspended in many areas. The main contest is expected to be between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa. Mnangagwa narrowly beat Chamisa in a disputed election last year. Zimbabwe has been under US and EU sanctions for the past two decades over allegations of human rights abuses.
