Pymes Perceive Optimism And Willingness to InvestSmall and medium-sized companies in the country have favorable expectations and are willing to make investments this year and to increase their hiring of personnel.

This is shown by the results for Colombia of the 2022 survey on small and medium-sized companies and their relationship with technology, presented by the Brother company.

The sample for the country was 424 companies that have between 10 and 200 employees, from various sectors and the main cities of the country.

Half of the participants note that they have introduced new businesses or product lines in the last two years and the majority, almost 45 percent, have to do with technology and electronic commerce. Everyone, in general, considers that the new strategies will continue to be viable when the pandemic ends.

Starting in 2022, when the survey was done, 27% said that the company’s results improved in the last year and 47% that they remained stable. Another 26% said they got worse. A year ago, the latter was answered by 68% of businessmen and only 9% spoke of an improvement.

In that order of ideas, the expectations going forward, for 80%, is that the company will grow and only 1% propose a contraction.

Likewise, 84% envision that the country’s economy will be better in 2022, for which 67% say that in the current scenario the best strategy is to invest in the business to gain an advantage over competitors.

Another 30% say they prefer to accumulate cash to ensure that they can survive any economic downturn, while 3% say they feel insecure or do not consider either of the two options mentioned above.

The survey asks a specific question about the upcoming elections. 59% of the directors consulted hope that the change in government will generate a better climate for business. 22% express that they have no expectations of changes. Another 8% believe that the weather will be worse and another 12% indicate that they are ‘not sure’.

In this optimistic scenario, 54% say that in 2022 they plan to hire more employees and another 42% say they will keep the payroll as it is. A year ago those percentages were 26% and 62%, respectively.

Among the companies that have electronic commerce among their practices, the greatest challenge they face has to do with the adoption or investment in new technologies, as well as the improvement in sales.

Likewise, they cite the strengthening of the delivery of products and/or services to customers.

In any case, a large part of those consulted recognizes that the expansion or increase in sales constitutes the greatest opportunity generated by this business channel.

The “hybrid” work model, in which many workers spend all or part of their time, has increased productivity for 49% of the SMEs surveyed. Another 38% consider that it has not been affected. Investments, particularly in technology, are announced by 95% for 2022. Computers and servers, as well as smartphones, printers and Wi-Fi service, appear among the priorities of these organizations .

In addition, 77% stated that remote work causes more attention to be paid to information security.
